If you are planning to leave Indonesia and return with a C6 Visa, please contact us as early as possible so we can help make the process as smooth as possible for you. It is also not possible to travel to Indonesia first and then look for a volunteering opportunity. You must already have a confirmed volunteering placement before applying for the C6 Visa, as this placement is required for the visa application. Since the C6 Visa can only be applied for from outside Indonesia, you need to arrange your volunteering opportunity before travelling to Indonesia or you would have to leave Indonesia, apply for the C6 Visa and then re-enter once the visa got issued.

Can I convert the e-Visa on Arrival to another visa?

The e-Visa on Arrival (e-VOA) can only be converted into a KITAS (temporary stay permit). To start this process, you must apply for a Bridging Visa approximately 2 weeks before your e-VOA expires. The latest possible time to start the conversion process is 3 days before your visa expires. Once the Bridging Visa is approved, it will then be converted into your KITAS. It is not possible to convert the e-VOA into any other visa type (such as C1, D1, etc.). If you need a different visa, you must: 1. Leave Indonesia, and 2. Apply for the new visa from outside the country, 3. Wait outside of Indonesia until your new visa is ready, 4. Enter Indonesia once your new visa is issued.

That said, we strongly recommend it, since medical treatment in Indonesia is paid out of pocket, and costs — for example for a hospital stay — can add up quickly. Do I have to pay taxes in Indonesia as an E33G holder? Do I need an NPWP?

Possibly yes, but it won't happen automatically: under Indonesian tax law, holding a KITAS like the E33G can trigger tax residency ("intent to reside") from the day you arrive — regardless of how many days you actually spend in the country. This is a separate test from the often-cited 183-day rule, and in practice it isn't always applied consistently. As a tax resident, you may need to register for an NPWP (Indonesian tax ID) and file an annual return, in principle on your worldwide income. Since Indonesia has double taxation agreements (DTAs) with many countries, tax already paid abroad can often be credited — but the exact effect depends on your home country and personal situation. This is not individual tax advice, since tax rules are complex and can change. Yes — for the E33G Remote Work Visa (Digital Nomad Visa Indonesia), we also accept freelancers and self-employed applicants, as long as you can prove a minimum annual income of USD 60,000 from outside Indonesia, for example through your own foreign company. What matters is that the income is clearly foreign-sourced — shown through bank statements, invoices, or a contract with your client(s).
