Can I do remote work or freelance for a foreign employer while in Indonesia on a C1 tourist visa?

Last updated on Sep 03, 2026

The C1 tourist visa does not permit any paid work, including remote work — the same applies to the e-VOA. In practice, incidental digital tasks for a foreign employer (answering emails, joining calls) are generally tolerated as long as you have zero involvement with the Indonesian market and aren't paid by an Indonesian entity, but regularly working full-time carries a real risk since it isn't officially authorized on a tourist visa.

If remote work is your main purpose for staying, Indonesia's E33G Remote Worker (Digital Nomad) visa is the legally intended option — contact us and we'll advise which visa fits your situation.
